World's Largest Goth Festival, Leipzig, Germany May 2015

photo credit: Ed Robertson Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Leipzig Since 1992, the world's largest goth festival has been held in Leipzig, Germany. For four days, Wave-Gotik-Treffen entertain about 20,000 goths and other dark subcultures fans like metalheads, steampunks, neo-Victorians, etc.  Departing from Berlin, our team took the bus for a 1.45 hour ride.    boarding the bus. photo credit: Yanira Brown  Before I left for Germany, I know many people were surprised to hear we were going to a goth festival.  They didn't think it would make a difference. I believe, if we can reach one person, it is worth it. I admit, it was a bit intimidating to talk to my first goths because of how they dressed.  But as I continued to talk to them, I found many similarities.  I heard many stories about pain and hurt.  It reminded me of my own journey and thought, "wow, never did I think I would use my pain to now help others."   "And we know that in all things God

A Beautiful Design: Woman's Purpose Today I felt led to listen to Matt Chandler's (Pastor of The Village Church ) sermon, "Woman's Purpose" in his series, "A Beautiful Design".  The following notes are directly from the message.  You can listen to the entire sermon here .    Biology makes us female, but does not make us women.  God's role for the man is headship.  Male headship is the unique leadership of the man in the work of establishing order for human flourishing.  Men who are exercising headship must do so in a way that is marked by sacrificial love.   Self sacrificing love is a mark of biblical masculinity and is the only way that true headship is ever exercised or practiced.   Men give.  Boys take. Men practice headship not just in sacrificial love but also in setting up the spiritual climate of the home and the church. Haiti Outreach 2012

My First Mission Trip I had been interested in helping abroad for quite some time and researched missions but I could never find anything that was a good fit.  One day, my coworker Julie posted pictures on Facebook of her recent mission trip to Haiti which sparked my interest.  When I asked her about the trip, it turned out everything sounded like what I was looking for at the time.  My goal was to go and photograph another culture.  The organization I went with was Faith Missions International founded by Omaha resident, Dan Jensen.  From 1998-2014, this group led many successful trips and is no longer active.  Dan has now been called to Drawbridge Ministry, encouraging Pastors and Ministry leaders.  He is also working for Kids Against Hunger.       Our Mission Our team helped in many ways.  A few of us stayed at an orphanage, while others led a Christian conference at a local church.  There were also some members who counseled Haitian female orphaned teens.  Our team als
