Hearing God's Voice

Image
Today is November 11th. 11/11. The significance is that I constantly see 11:11 when I turn my phone on. It's fun to tell the friend I'm with at that time that they are my "11:11 moment".  This morning, I decided to start reading Jesus Always , a daily devotional recently given to me by my friend Michelle for my birthday. The back of the book talked about how the readings are about experiencing true joy.  I felt an "ah-ha" moment. Joy is the word that God gave me for 2021 and my plan is to study this word throughout the new year. Such a God wink for Michelle to gift me a devotional about joy! I love all the ways that God speaks to us. It doesn't have to be audible. We hear God in different ways. He communicates to us through dreams, signs, songs, circumstances...  A book I recommend about hearing God's voice is The Prophetic Voice of God by Lana Vawser. And check this out, on page 45, the author talks about always seeing 11:11! She tells us to pa

Your Gift is a New Life

This post is about a message I delivered in May 2018.   At the end of every semester at Christ For The Nations Institute , select students who make 100 on their preaching final get to present on stage in front of the school.  For the past 3 semesters, it has been so inspiring for me to hear students deliver powerful messages. I wanted to sign up for the Homiletics class but I chickened out.  However, this semester I decided to go for it and not let fear hold me back.  I'm so glad I did!   Homiletics is the art and science of preaching.  The delivery is the art and the preparation is the science.  I have spoken in front of an audience a few times and I thought this class would give me additional pointers to what I already knew but I was wrong!  Pastor Eric, my teacher, had me start from scratch and I was so challenged in the best way possible.   Throughout the semester, we learned how to give a sermon and for our final, we had to present a 10 minute message. If we scored 100 on

Want to read the Bible in one year? Two great plans to achieve your goal

One of my resolutions for 2020 was to read the Bible from cover to cover, something I have never done before. I am currently reading from The Daily Bible in Chronological Order 365 Daily Readings . This was gifted to me by my coworker Shannon years ago and it wasn't until this year that I pulled it from my shelf, committed to finishing it. What I like about this Bible is that the average daily reading is no more than 5 pages. Also, there is a narrative section that sets the scene for what I'm about to read.  In saying all of this, are there days where I miss my reading? YES. Are there times when I don't remember what I just read? YES. Do I get discouraged? ABSOLUTELY.  God knows all of this and He recently replied through my friend whose name is...  GRACE.  I met Grace at bible school and she was born in Vietnam, just like me. Grace has read through the Bible more than once and I thank God for having her in my life. She has become one of my close friends. One day, Grace

My 11:11 New York Trip

credit: Colton Duke     This is about a trip I took in 2019 posted today on September 11, 2020 to commemorate the 9/11 attacks.    For the past couple of years, when I would look at a clock or turn on my phone, I'd see the time, 11:11. For me, it's a God wink.  Recently, a friend at work asked me to switch days with her.  I said yes and then realized I would now be off on November 11th.  11/11!  God, I wonder what you have in store for me that day.  Later that evening, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw a post from Vietnamese Boat People stating that they were hosting a live podcast taping with New York Times Best Selling author, Thanhha Lai .  Guess what day this would be on?  November the 11th! This was a big deal because I have been nudged to write a book for years.  I've always enjoyed writing and have recently decided to invest more time in it now that I've finished school.  I recommend Compel Training as a great resource. Thanhha Lai is a Vietnames
