Hearing God's Voice


 

 

Today is November 11th. 11/11. The significance is that I constantly see 11:11 when I turn my phone on. It's fun to tell the friend I'm with at that time that they are my "11:11 moment". 

This morning, I decided to start reading Jesus Always, a daily devotional recently given to me by my friend Michelle for my birthday. The back of the book talked about how the readings are about experiencing true joy. 

I felt an "ah-ha" moment. Joy is the word that God gave me for 2021 and my plan is to study this word throughout the new year. Such a God wink for Michelle to gift me a devotional about joy!

I love all the ways that God speaks to us. It doesn't have to be audible. We hear God in different ways. He communicates to us through dreams, signs, songs, circumstances... 

A book I recommend about hearing God's voice is The Prophetic Voice of God by Lana Vawser. And check this out, on page 45, the author talks about always seeing 11:11! She tells us to pay attention to repetition, ask the Lord for the Spirit of revelation and wisdom, and research it. 

If you are struggling to hear from God, this is a prayer from Lana's book. 

 

Lord, thank You that You still speak today. Thank you, Lord, for the promise that I can hear Your voice. Thank You that You love to speak to me and that You are always speaking. Lord, continue to train me to hear Your voice, to be sensitive to Your Spirit and how You are speaking to me. Lord, by Your Spirit continue to create in me a hunger to hear Your voice and recognize when You speak. In Jesus's name, amen.

Golden Rock Pagoda, Mon State, Myanmar Golden Rock Pagoda (Kyaiktiyo Pagoda) is the 3rd most important pilgrimage site in Myanmar. The pagoda is located at the top of Mt. It's In The Little Details

pexels.com     Last night after dinner, my mom was holding our family dog Mango and I heard her say, "it's in the little details".  She was referring to Mango's crochet sweater that he was wearing.  These days, I feel Mango has better fashion sense than I do.  Mango had on a beautiful sweater and my mom was admiring it.  Earlier that day, we had a guest come to the house and Mango was dressed to be the host with the most.  What my mom didn't know was when she said those five words, it made me prick up my ears.  This made me think of this past semester when my teacher Will Ford taught us the Hebrew word "qashab", which means to prick up the ears, be attentive, listen.  More on this word later.  First, let me explain why these five words meant so much to me and were the perfect seal to end the day.   Rewind to earlier that day, about 1:30pm.  I went to my workplace to get some things done and to drop off coffee for my friend Laura who was wor

Help-Portrait 2011

A Picture is Worth... During the summer of 2011, while having lunch with my dear friend Kasie, I told her about my growing passion for photography.  In response, Kasie told me about a non-profit organization called   Help-Portrait and said it sounded like the perfect fit for me.  Founded by photographer Jeremy Cowart in 2009, Help-Portrait is a global movement where one day out of the year, photographers are asked to find someone in need, take their picture, and give it to them for free.  Along with volunteer make-up artists and stylists, these professionals work together to give back to the community.   With the help and support of family and friends, I was able to create a Help-Portrait event at a local nursing home, Presbyterian Village North.  The significance of this place is that my parents worked here in 1982 when we first located to the States from Vietnam.  My mother was a dietary aid and my father was a dishwasher.  Elderly residents taught my mom English, which
